When the Spaniards instilled parochial mentality, the Americans had another idea. They introduced “individualism” as an ideology and used the “western education system” as a tool to appease and impress us. We looked at the Americans as a savior and a new-found ally.
Their generosity made us think they were sincere and so we trusted them. In reality, the educational system provided for us by the Americans had to complement their self-interest. In fact, it was designed to correspond to the economic and political reality of American colonizers. In other words, education disguised as generosity became a subtle tool for yet another invasion.
No wonder, our educational leaders today have yet to realize that our education system is broken that it causes more division among people. Our country’s education system, as we know today, can be traced to the first soldier-teachers of the American invasion army. While they are proud of their profession as teachers, the system was set only within the framework of American colonialism.
